About Data Frontier

The engineering team that designs, builds and maintains the equipment that sends your data.

Data Frontier is a technology company from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, active since May 2020. We build from hardware to software: the board and firmware of the sensors and gateways, connectivity over cellular, LoRa and satellite, and the IoTData Cloud platform, where data becomes history, alerts and reports. One team accountable from start to finish.

From hardware to software

Four layers, one team.

Electronics

Board and enclosure designed in-house, for sun, dust, vibration and the factory floor.

Firmware

The code running on the device is ours: battery saving, a local queue when the network drops, remote updates.

Connectivity

Cellular, LoRa and satellite, chosen per site, with the same data reaching the same place.

Platform

IoTData Cloud: dashboard, history stamped with the time of the event, alerts by e-mail and WhatsApp, and an API for your system.

How we work

Honest about what is ours and about what the technology does.

  • What is ours, we say is ours.

Sensors, gateways, cameras, the lubricator, the tracker and the platform are made in-house. Drones, solar inverters, harvesters and reefer units are third-party: we read them, integrate them and tell you which one we chose and why.

  • A published figure has a source.

Standards and figures quoted on our pages come with their reference. A spec we have not yet confirmed for your application shows as “on request”, not as a nice-looking number.

  • Satellite latency is stated as it is.

Over the DG satellite network, data arrives within minutes. Over the satellite link of the NB-IoT chip, which passes a few times a day, within hours. Neither is sold as instantaneous.

  • Whoever designed it, supports it.

When something fails, there are no three suppliers pointing at each other: the same team that designed the board maintains the firmware and the dashboard.

Where the data travels

Three networks, chosen site by site.

DG satellite network

Wide-area coverage, including places with no tower at all. Data arrives within minutes. Availability at each site is confirmed in the survey.

NB-IoT and 4G

Where a mobile operator reaches, within minutes; the hybrid chip also talks to satellite.

LoRa

A local network on the farm or at the plant, gathering several sensors at one point with signal.
